Happy Thanksgiving, friends! I usually use premade pie dough, but tried homemade…gotta get the hang of handling it, it was way more crumbly than I thought it would be, so I decided to forego any attempts at fancy edging because the butter started to melt.
I want to make another pie just to try a lattice with homemade dough, but the parents love crumb topping (with pecans! -used Ree Drummond’s Caramel Apple Pie recipe) for their apple pie…gotta appease the parents on Thanksgiving ;).
Apple pies are great, but I can’t seem to avoid syrup bubbling out and burning in the oven… Anyone have any bomb pie recipes or tips they wouldn’t mind sharing?

Tips from experimenting for attractive cookies:
1. Don’t add all the chips the recipe calls for to the batter; save some of them to place on top of scooped dough balls for aesthetics (~5/cookie resulted in perfect,Cookie Monster-worthy cookies…Also seems to help prevent too much spreading.
2. Chill cookie dough at least 30 minutes before baking so they don’t spread as much when baking (the cold butter melts slower); flatten the tops of the dough balls slightly (I used a bench scraper) before placing in oven to help control the spread of the cookies as the bake.
3. Too much grease makes them spread too much and become thin, so if you want chewier cookies, use parchment paper instead of PAM - they still come off easily, and you don’t have to deal with cooling racks! Parchment paper also allows you to pull the cookies straight off the pan and onto a cool counter (like in my pic) to stop them from baking further
